The re-envisioning of the University of Tennessee’s Student Aquatic Center roof structure began with a vision of a tensile system seen in many tent-like precedents. Due to the large span required to reach over the lap pool and diving pool, we had to devise a space frame system that curved to fit the form we hoped to keep from the tensile iterations. We achieved this system using Grasshopper and Rhino. We also used the Grasshopper plugin Karamba to complete water runoff simulations and calculations.
